Although stress is often a negative thing, some types of stress can actually be healthy. Stress can enhance performance, boost energy, and help us make deadlines. Healthy stress will subside, leaving you feeling refreshed and ready for the next challenge.

Unhealthy stress does not abate, though, and just causes more and more problems. it can be a factor in dry mouth, depression, fatigue, irritability, restlessness, weight inconsistencies and hair loss. Stress is a leading cause of anxiety disorders, depression, and many types of addiction. Stress creates further problems like loss of concentration, irritation, depression, and depleted sexual urge.

If you feel that you are getting a lot of these symptoms at once then you may be under terrible stress. Stress will harm your emotional well-being as well as your physical health. Schedule an appointment with your doctor if you feel your stress levels spiraling out of control. You must be pro-active to successfully deal with your stress. If you just live with the stress, it will begin to negatively affect your health.

Every person has his own way to deal towards stress. A little stress is not all hat harmful but you really need to control the amount of stress that you suffer from. Stress can be dealt with in healthy ways, (exercise, medications), or through destructive means, (drugs, alcohol).

Speaking with a family member, close friend or clergy can help you deal with unhealthy stress. Thinking pleasant thoughts and breathing deeply are the basic elements of quiet time, which is a good way to alleviate stress. Just set aside 15-20 minutes per day for this, but you have to do it everyday without fail. Look around and single out the positive things around you, this will help you from spiraling into a deep depression.

Exercise is the most simple, universal stress reliever there is. Physical exercise has many benefits including weight reduction, stress relief, and improving your overall well-being.

Set aside one hour each day and do something completely unrelated to the source of your stress. Work at a “mindless” hobby, or get a mundane part-time job.

If you are coming to terms with great levels of stress, you should visit a doctor. Speak out about your stress to someone who is ready to listen to you. Stress should be relieved without setting out on self-destructive activity. Search for information from the American Heart Association, they give some great tips for managing your stress levels.
