A Short Review Of Anger Management Classes

Life today is full of plenty of stressful situations and all kinds of emotional interactions with people, that most folks have a hard time keeping an even keel when it comes to managing their resulting . For some, they cannot do it alone and need some kind of lifeline to get them through the toughest situations so they can come to terms with their emotions and the that is pushing their buttons. A major lifeline in this respect, would be anger management classes.

Dealing with anger can be a complex problem if you are not familiar with the different sides that anger has in manifesting itself. One side, the more open and overt side, is demonstrated by cursing, vehement rage, violence against inanimate objects and people, physical and mental abuse of others, and spreading rumors and lies to bring someone’s reputation down. The other side has to do with keeping all the pain and resentment deep inside, a form of internal anger that foments for years unless something is done about it. This form of anger is started by a person being subjected to long periods of abuse; verbal and physical; feelings of rejection; being or feeling abandoned; or suffering from the death of a loved one.

One group of folks that can really use anger management classes to help vent their frustration and anger that have built up because of the job they do, are the law enforcement officers and police. The stress that police officers have to endure every day is mind boggling sometimes, and they are called names, punched, spit on, even shot at; and they have to keep their cool and not lash out at the perpetrator. The volume of anger that builds from just that is tremendous, and many officers cannot contain it or disperse it when they are off the job; they take it home with them and then take out their frustration on the folks at home. This anger must be defused, and classes is a very effective way of helping to teach the tools needed to prevent anger outbursts.

Similarly, in a marriage situation; there are times when the stress of being married, finances, childcare, caring for elderly parents, and a host of other stresses can become just too much for an individual to bear, and the couple will suffer as a result of the stress and resulting anger. Anger management classes can help here, where the couple can air grievances to an objective third party and possibly prevent a divorce outcome, or resolve child abuse problems, or work out domestic violence issues. The facilitator will try to improve communication within the marriage and even act as a mediator in child custody issues.

We couldn’t talk about the subject of anger and frustration without delving into the world of the blossoming teenager and all the problems and dilemmas that occur just from being a teen. With their underdeveloped brains and overdeveloped hormones, frustration is sure to mount; as well as all the other things going on in their lives that puts tremendous pressure on them. For example, society mores and pressures in general; school issues; peer pressure of all kinds; gangs and all the disgusting mess that goes on with them; and dating issues; as well as just trying to become their own person and growing pains. There are anger management classes targeted just for teens and their special problems, and they can be extremely helpful for a teen who is struggling with his/her identity. Not only do many of these teens act out and get into trouble when their anger boils over, there are those also who internalize everything, suffer in silence, and then one day commit suicide. These classes can help.

Anger management classes designed for caregivers are a boon for those folks who are spending their days taking care of an elderly parent, or a debilitated senior, or a disabled person, or a mentally challenged person (adult or child). The caregivers involved here suffer from much anxiety, guilt, resentment, isolation, frustration, sometimes aggression when the stress gets too great, and depression. They need time away now and again, and unless they get some relief from the constant stress and pressure, they will get worn out and sick themselves. That’s where these classes can provide such help; they meet with folks who are like minded and doing the same job; so understanding and compassion reign supreme in the meeting place, and everyone in the group benefits from the release of tension and the camaraderie.

Life today is so much more complicated than it was years ago, and a lot of the family infrastructures that were there to help are gone; plus, daily living feels like we are on a luge to nowhere, and the anger and frustration that builds up from folks being unable to cope is monumental. All of this, plus the overt violence in society today, makes living and getting along in society a real challenge for a lot of folks. This is where something like anger management classes can help fill in the needy spots, and soothe our ruffled, harried psyches. Controlling rage and anger is necessary to be able to function in every day life today, and incorporating these classes into your schedule will do a lot to help.
